How one student went to work straight after A Levels

More and more A level students are deciding to go into the work place rather than go to university. Hannah Van Ross, (18), a former St Richard College pupil from Pevensey who completed her A levels this year at Park College part of Sussex Downs College, is one example.

Hannah starts work at Plummer Parsons
Hannah has made the difficult decision not to go to university but to start her career locally at Plummer Parsons in Eastbourne as a trainee accountant. Hannah gained an A in Law and B in Accounting.

It will take Hannah four years to qualify as a chartered accountant but she is looking forward to the challenge. She has only been working there for a couple of weeks but is settling into the office routine and getting up to speed with the back office systems.

“We have had a long association with Sussex Downs College who always produce good quality candidates many of whom have remained with the company and have excelled in the accountancy profession.” said Steve Griffen, Partner and Head of Staff Training.

“I want to understand and learn about all the different aspects of accountancy and the work this very busy office undertakes from working with charities through to taxation. This will help be decide which area I want to specialise in for the future.” said Hannah.
